The Hands Free Leash

So I'm an avid fan of The Swanky Pup, mainly because they have so many neat doggie thingys that you either A) just have to get or B) wonder who has the money to purchase this stuff. It's always a treat in my Google Reader when there's a new post!

Which leads me to this post (The Swanky Pup highlighted this too) - we run with Rusty. Sometimes up to 4 miles and let me tell you. I don't feel like I get a great work out holding the leash in my left hand. I'd much rather run and NOT hold the leash so that's what this hands free leash does from The Loyal Dog. It's $25 which isn't too bad for a leash (there's a doggie boutique in town where leashes are $50 and up, no thank you!).

I think I'll most definitely order it - it looks fairly simple and straightforward.

Toxic Plants in Indiana?

Oh, yes there are...

Unfortunately we have a Black Walnut tree in the backyard. It even says, "Do not let dogs eat walnut hulls." Oops. I think Rusty might've eaten one or two... Well no symptoms of what they've explained...

Let's see, what else do we have in our yard that's toxic?

Um. I can't really identify any other plants in our yard! I'll have to take pictures and then look 'em all up...

Dang it - I can't wait until we don't have to rent later this year!

It's The New Food

We did it. We made the switch. And now - Rusty's stools (or poop or whatever you want to call the brown stuff that comes out of his butt) are much harder than before. He only poops once a day (yes!) AND there's no more itching, no more licking, etc...

We've done it... and I think we'll rotate the CA Naturals - but not the chicken - to give him some variety of proteins and flavors with the Herring & Sweet Potato.

Get Furminated

Seriously - so it takes the undercoat and not the top coat. You've seen pics of Rusty, he's pretty dang furry. You can order it here: FURminator deShedding Tool


I Furminate (haha, I LURVE that word... Furminate) him on a fairly regular basis otherwise his hind legs go into a tailspin of never ending knots and matts.

First - get the dog used to the Furminater. Treats around it, sniffing, whatever possible to get them used to it.

Second - treat while in the process of furminating. And also - have a bag handy for disposing of fur. You'll have to pull all the fur out after one or two swipes. It's that good!

We pulled out close to a pasta box (rigatoni sized) of fur. Ok, so that's what I have for filling with fur, I don't collect plastic bags, Bimmer Man does and I end up recycling them anyway.

Furminator recommendation = It's a MUST HAVE for dogs with lots of undercoat.

Intermediate Doggie Obedience

Well, since Rusty graduated on Saturday. Guess what... we're all signed up for Intermediate Obedience class.

I'm wondering if Rusty can actually stay when balls are being bounced in front of him. Maybe we should wait. Um, no, maybe not.

Just as long as Bimmer Man STOPS using "OK" as the release word instead of what we AGREED ON WHICH IS THANK YOU (HINT HINT) we should be ok.

Ok, so my real thoughts - well, you know... our release word is THANK YOU. USE IT.
